Today is eight years since my Dad died.  He went very quickly a few days after a fall, quite surprising my Mom and me (she passed away in August 2004).  As we do so many times, at first I only thought of all the ways I must have disappointed him or caused him heartache, but then I began to focus on all the love and the wonderful things---Papa really wanted a girl, and he named me---and all the serious, silly and loving moments in our life together.  I asked him to forgive and watch over me, and remember how much I love him, then said The Lord's Prayer and Apostle's Creed.  Monday, February 4 he would have been 95, and his funeral and entombment were on his birthday.  My heart aches, but remembering Papa and praying to God helps to ease the ache.

I'm so sorry for your father's death, lhenders.

I'm glad you've found some comfort.

I'm a person of faith so I pray and so forth, but sometimes God seems far away, and that hurts, too.

But I am glad to hear it helps you.
